ah kua

definition:
ah kua - a transvestite, or more recently, with sex-change surgery becoming technologically feasible, also a transsexual. used in the past to refer to male cross-dressers who perform in Chinese operas or 'wayangs' as they are locally called.

in malay we called them mak yah. you can find lots of transexual person in thailand. i mean you can't even distinguish a real woman from a transexual in thailand. tat's how serious it is. but this is of coz given tat they never start talking. they even got ah kua competition in thailand and i got to say...those ah kua taking parts are chun-er than then average girls we saw everyday. tat is a fact.

i cant imagine how a transexual youth can cope with the outside world since transsexualism is still not widely accepted in many countries. tat really need lots of courage and i salute them for this. according to some research, the transsexual condition becomes apparent at some time in childhood, sometimes even in very early childhood. (note: i nv experience this la...nia seng!) most of the time, kids like them will try to hide being different as soon as they experience rejection resulting from their differences.

but even so, things may get complicated when i comes to telling the parents. they may feel they need to 'remain in the closet' until they feel that the time is appropriate to reveal to their parents their gender identity. understandably so, as parents have a great deal of influence in their children's lives, some parents can react negatively towards such news. some kids may b luckier than the others as some parents can be very supportive, initially, or after such news has been broken to them.

anyway, wat i wanted to say was to tell all the petpet out there to nv look down on ppl with gender identity disorder. give ppl some respect.
